Over recent years the membership of the Leics. county Branch of CPRE has remained constant at around the 350 mark. We need volunteers to scrutinise plans and developments in all areas of the county. Sometimes, designs fall short of what is acceptable and both planning authorities and developers very often welcome our suggestions. If you would like to become a volunteer, perhaps developing a specialism in such matters as transport, housing or renewable energy, please get in touch with us. A hot topic at present is the proposal to develop a large 'eco-town' to the south-east of Leicester on productive agricultural land. There is also the perennial problem of habitat protection and at the very least maintaining biodiversity in sites all across the County. Are there places where you live worthy of this type of protection, or have you considered the possibility of habitat creation in order to enhance biodiversity? What about the protection or enhancement of tranquillity? Have you seen CPRE's Tranquillity map of Leicestershire?
At present one or two areas in Leicestershire are not covered by a CPRE Volunteer group. As a volunteer you are free to put in as much, or as little, time as you wish! Also, meetings can be arranged to take place at home or in a pub, which is a great opportunity to meet interesting people - and you'll be doing something positive to make your surroundings better. Don't be put off by any lack of personal expertise - we will provide all the help needed.
