Sapcote Village
Sapcote is an attractive village with a long history. An early Bronze Age occupation has been discovered here, and a Roman villa and Bath house dating from the 1st century AD.From the 12th-14th century the village was the home of the Bassett family.
The oldest surviving building in the village is the 12th century All Saints church. The Methodist Church opened in 1905, is a fine example of the Arts and Craft period. There are several thatched Cottages and Park Farm is dated 1683.A bath house was built over the Golden well in 1806.The old school was built in 1819.Sapcote's natural history heritage includes Freeholt Wood an area of woodland off Hinckley Road.
There is much research to be done and we would welcome anyone willing to help.We do have a copy of the WI churchyard survey carried out in 1981.We hope to record the memorials in the cemetery.
