Ratby Local History Group
Ratby Local History Group was formed in December 2000 to support the study of the village’s history and to share its findings with the wider community.
The Group meets on Friday evenings (7.30 - 9.30pm) every two months in the Village Hall. There are talks by visiting speakers and members report on their own research and interests. The Group has a fieldwalking group, which collects evidence of local archaeology. In June/July 2002, we produced a display on “Ratby in the 1950s”, to commemorate the Golden Jubilee. In September 2003, we exhibited a display on "Ratby people who served in WWI". Our first book: "History of Ratby: Volume 1" edited by Doug Harwood was published in July 2004. Regular displays are mounted in Ratby Library, covering topics such as "Textiles in Ratby"; "Pubs in Ratby". In 2006, we designed a "Landscape Heritage Information Board", which has been erected at the entrance to Burroughs Road with funding provided by Landshapes, a subsidiary of the National Forest. Our second book was published in Sept. 2006 (See Current Projects for details). A new book describing "Ratby Walks in the National Forest" was published in November 2008.
