Melton Mowbray Chess Club is newly situated at the Conservative Club in Thorpe End (near McDonalds).
We are a thriving and sociable club who participate in the Leicestershire and Rutland Chess Association (LRCA) league and our home club night is Wednesday .

Melton chess success !!

Four years after being resurrected by secretary Peter Poolan, Melton chess club continues to go from strength to strength !
In season 2005-06 Melton made their debut in Div 6 of the Leicestershire and Rutland League. By 2006-07 the team had won Div 6.
In 2007-08 two teams were entered in Div 3 and Div 5 and both gained promotion, the 2nd team winning their division comfortably and the first team only failing to win their own division by losing the last game.
In 2008-9 the 1st team won Div2 to gain entry to the top division and the 2nd team just failed to win promotion from Div3.
The 2009-10 season saw them fielding three teams - in Divs 1, 3 and 5. The 1st team exceeded all expectations in their debut season in Div1 by finishing 3rd, the 2nd team topped the Div3 table all season only to finish 3rd themselves, and the 3rd team after a shaky start gained promotion by coming 2nd in Div5.
2010-11 sees the 1st team attempting to disrupt Wigston's dominance in Div1 again, the 2nd team promoted to Div2 and the 3rd team promoted to Div4 so some tough matches are to be expected as we climb the county tree!
As ever, Melton welcomes new players of all ages and strengths to boost the playing strength of the club.
