Welcome from Market Harborough Volunteer Centre!
From April 2007 we will become an integral part of Voluntary Action South Leicestershire when the Volunteer Centre merges with South Leics Council for Voluntary Service.
The Volunteer Centre's main role is to recruit, train, place and support volunteers in the eastern area of Harborough District. The catchment area of the Volunteer Centre is 150 square miles of rural Leicestershire east of the A5199 (old A50). There are over 60 villages in this area from Great Glen in the north to Scraptoft, Loddington and Great Easton in the east and Husbands Bosworth and Newton Harcourt to the west.
Volunteers can work for our own projects or can be placed with any other volunteer-using group or organization. Over half our volunteers are involved with such organizations and groups.
As a Volunteer Centre, we help to develop new volunteering opportunities, often working with all sorts of groups in the local community; promote & market volunteering; inform & guide groups on good practice in using volunteers and campaign on issues which affect volunteers and volunteering.
From April 2007, Voluntary Action South Leicestershire (VASL)will have several in house projects that involve volunteers: a Transport Project which includes a Social Car Scheme, Good Companions and Mental Health Befriending Schemes, and there are plans for a new Carers Telephone Befriending Service; also there is Harborough Helpers - a project providing practical help.
VASL and Market Harborough Volunteer Centre are based in The Settling Rooms, a Grade 2 listed building in the centre of the town.
Volunteers are welcome to come and talk to us - the information is free and no obligation to volunteer. There are lots of volunteering opportunities around - but never enough volunteers!
If you want to volunteer, just contact us or you can see all our opportunities and more on the national volunteering website which is www.do-it.org.uk. More information is available on volunteering in the county of LeicesterShire on the local website:www.volunteeringleicestershire.org.uk
