Countesthorpe Bowls Club, founded in 1934, is located at 46 Station Road, Countesthorpe, LEICESTER LE8 5TA (tel: 0116 277 0127) and is approached from a gated private drive between 2 bungalows.
The Club, which is owned and run by its members, provides bowling facilities for players of all ages with or without experience. Bowls is an ideal sport for Couples and Families as both Men and Ladies as well as Children as young as 9 can learn to play.
Currently we have just over 70 Men and about 40 Ladies who are playing members. There are still vacancies for new members and if you would like to try your hand at playing Bowls, just contact our Secretary, Alan Baker on 0116 247 8973 to arrange a free trial. No special equipment or clothing is required for this free trial as shoes and bowls will be provided. If you decide to join the Club, we have an excellent qualified County Coach, Mike Rankin, who can help you with the basic skills of the game. You can contact him by ringing the Club; if he is not available, someone will take a message for him to contact you.
The Clubhouse is modern and up to date with a licensed Bar. During the winter, various Social events are organised including a Coach Holiday as well as themed evenings such as a Fish & Chips Supper with Entertainment. Many of our Club members continue bowling at the Carlton Indoor Bowls Club; also there is a team playing in a Skittles League most Wednesdays.
For those who enjoy competitive bowling, we have teams in the Hinckley & District Triples League (Mondays), the South Leicestershire Triples League (Tuesdays) and the Leicester & District League (Wednesdays). There is in addition a full playing programme for Men, Ladies and Mixed teams as well as Club events including competitions.
The Club is affiliated to the Leicestershire Bowling Associations and the English Bowling Associations.
Many people find they enjoy not only the playing of the sport but also the social side and wish they had taken it up at an earlier age!
Come and have a go, you won’t regret it!
