East Midlands Petanque
Whilst on holiday abroad you may have seen people playing a game with metal balls (boules). This game is called Petanque; it's a game for all ages and both sexes to play as equals. In England there are approximately 3500 members in 300 Clubs, split into 15 Regions.
If you are interested in playing but do not have any boule, do not worry, just contact your nearest Club or Regional Officer and I am sure you will be made welcome and shown how to play.
Michel Hourcastagnou
This is not the way i would ideally start to update the website but East Midlands members need to be informed of the untimely passing away of a man whom i consider to be one of the greatest petanque players i have had the pleasure to meet and compete against, Michel Hourcastagnou.

Famous for the porkpie hat he always wore, michel was loved and respected by all East Midlands players who knew him, he always had time for a friendly chat no matter who you were and whatever level of the game you played in.I played him many a time and most times he would always beat me but when he did he would take me aside for a few minutes to point out where I or my team had gone wrong but gave me hope that one day I would beat him, the best accolade being that recently when he faced my team he admitted out of all of the teams around that if he needed to achieve a result he would prefer me not to be in his pool as we could make things difficult for him but win or lose it would always be a good game.

You may no longer be with us Michel but you have reached out and touched many people across the petanque fraternity just by being who you are. I use the word are and not were because were means to me past and distant, not in your case, myself and the whole of the East Midlands salute you, there is only one Michel Hourcastagnou.
